I'm a Florida girl at heart, but fell in love here on Cape Cod and have been embracing New England life ever since. It's been such a blessing building a life and chasing my dreams with my husband, our two little girls, and our pups.

Booking a photoshoot is a big deal. Today, pretty much all of us have a camera at our fingertips at all times. This makes it easy to capture all of our favorite moments. So, when you book a photoshoot with a professional photographer, you’re going the extra mile. It means you want more than the everyday captures. When I am planning for my own photoshoot with my family, I treat it like a fancy day out. I think that’s a great way to look at it. Remember, you’re styling your session for stand out photos!
Let’s talk styling tips.
Choosing a color palette is an important place to start when styling the outfits for your session. Are you wanting to reflect the season of your session? Pastels complement spring and summer, beautifully. Neutrals are great because they work with every season, and every occasion. Bonus for neutrals, you can accessorize with fun color accents! Maybe you naturally lean a little more towards bold colors? Bold colors such as red, green, blue, purple, and yellow add a richness and elegance to almost any backdrop. Whatever color palette speaks to you, make sure all outfits coordinate with each other. As you can see from this session, Emma started with her outfit choice first. Her blouse has a beautiful variety of colors that she used to style the rest of her family. It’s a very well-balanced look, and all of the colors stand out nicely against the green backdrop of the field.
Patterns and textures help each outfit stand apart from one another. Incorporating these elements into your wardrobe adds visual interest to your photos by bring them more to life. Think bold patterns with subtle patterns, or delicate textures (such as lace, tulle, or satin) paired with masculine textures (such as leather, denim, or corduroy). Of course, these are just a few options to consider. Choose a combination that speaks to you.
I love this family’s use of the bright and bold mixed with muted blues. They stand out perfectly against the soft glow of the beach sunset.
No outfit is complete without the right details. When finalizing your outfits, I always recommend wearing dressier shoes. For ladies and girls: flats, dressy sandals, or heels. For men or boys, oxford shoes or a dressy boot. I lean towards brown when it comes to the guys’ details. Whatever the color, just make sure the shoes match the belt! Other accessories to include would be statement jewelry, scarves, headbands, etc.
Kailyn and Chris went with outfits that could be dressed down or up. A simple upgrade in shoes, and their style became casual elegance. They were a vision in this garden.
I can’t wait to see what you come up with for your next photoshoot!
