October Wedding at the Harbor View Hotel

This wedding season blessed me with not one island wedding, but two! Comparing my experience with Nantucket and then the Vineyard, I kind of felt like the twin sisters in Elin Hildebrand’s novel, The Identicals. Cassie and Chris’s special day brought me to the beautiful Harbor View Hotel in Edgartown. Funny story- I actually stayed at this hotel almost 15 years ago with my family! The more I explored the property, the more familiar it felt. That was in the month of July, I think? And while I favor the warm weather, there’s something about New England when summer turns to fall. It’s quieter, it’s cozier. I love that it’s a different kind of beautiful. One seems to almost savor it more. Summer is so very fleeting, but the colder, rainier months hang on a bit longer. They make you notice them. And there was a lot to notice and savor about Cassie and Chris’s October wedding at the Harbor View Hotel.

I met Cassie and Chris this past spring for their engagement session, and I had all of the feels for these two. They’re a couple you meet and can’t help but fall in love with their love for each other. The way they show how they feel is simple and effortless; they fit together seamlessly. It’s such a beautiful thing to bear witness to, and I’m lucky to have captured a piece of their story with my lens.

Couple’s goals

In true Cassie and Chris fashion, they really wanted their day to be full of sweet and personal moments. The two exchanged letters, shared a private first look, and enjoyed each other’s company. At the reception, I couldn’t help but notice they were happy just sitting at their table holding hands instead of joining their favorite people out on the dance floor. And I loved that so much for them. After all, this day is for them to celebrate however feels right. They savored the day, and every moment in it.
