Planning your Engagement Session
Get to know me more
I'm a Florida girl at heart, but fell in love here on Cape Cod and have been embracing New England life ever since. It's been such a blessing building a life and chasing my dreams with my husband, our two little girls, and our pups.
I'm Ashley!
Rain, rain, don’t go away! Just bring a little sun so we can play! I know what you’re thinking right now: She’s crazy! Who WANTS it to rain during their photoshoot?! I hear you. And before this engagement session with Caroline and Jack took place, I would have absolutely agreed with you. Don’t get me wrong, it is not ideal from a photographer’s standpoint; my gear got wet and the light wasn’t the greatest. That being said, I would totally do it again. Grab an umbrella, don a cute rain coat, and come join me! This rainy day engagement session in Boston is definitely a new favorite of mine.
Earlier that day, Caroline went for her hair and makeup trial. I completely understood how the thought of getting dowsed by rain did not seem enticing at first. We started out shooting in two beautiful hotels in the city, which complemented the vision Caroline had in mind. Her love for the Public Garden and the desire for more photo opportunities eventually outweighed her concern for getting wet, though. And then the real fun began! Incorporating some indoor photos allowed for some nice variety in Caroline and Jack’s gallery, which showcases their love for the city’s architecture, local gathering spots, and favorite places to take a stroll.
PRO TIP: Planning for indoor locations as an alternative in case of inclement weather is always a good idea. The weather actually turned out to be better than forecasted in this situation, which is why we were able to pull off the outdoor part of the shoot.
I’ve always loved rainy days. In movies, when a couple runs out into the rain and shares a kiss or has a passionate moment it is just so romantic. Rain adds an extra layer of feeling. I loved that we incorporated an umbrella for most of the session because it encouraged Caroline and Jack to stay close to one another, creating intimacy. When they let go of that adorable prop I loved how carefree they became. I captured so many emotions during this session, and I know the rain aided in that.
I think what I love most about being in the city is seeing people dressed up. I find heels and suits to be such a vibe, and one that complements the wow factor that is any big city. Caroline and Jack styled their session perfectly. Dressing to impress is always a tip I encourage when planning outfits for a session, and that’s exactly what they did. While a simple black trench coat is a staple piece that can be dressed up or dressed down, paired with the right accessories it makes quite the statement. And Caroline’s 1960’s inspired white chunky high heels made an absolutely adorable statement! Add in an umbrella? We were flexing out there people! These two city dwellers were made for this rainy day engagement session!
